Winter sales shopping phrases in Spanish: 15 phrases
Ask if something is on sale, what it costs with the discount, whether you can try it on, for a bigger or smaller size, about exchanges and returns, a receipt, paying by card and gift wrap. Short, natural phrases for the winter sales in a new country.
Phrases, not advice. These cards only help you say what you need. They give no medical, legal, tax or financial advice. For any decision, ask the pharmacist, doctor, bank or the official office.
Register: Neutral. In Spanish shops, staff often use "usted" with customers, and many shoppers do too, so the phrases below use the plain "usted" or impersonal "tienen" forms that suit everyone. With young staff in fashion shops "tú" is also fine ("¿Me lo puedes envolver?"). "Rebajas" is the usual word for the sales in Spain; in Latin America you will also hear "liquidación" and "oferta".
How to read the sounds: Spanish is mostly read as written. In Spain, c before e/i and z sound like English th. h is silent. ñ = ny. rr is rolled. Stress is marked in CAPITALS.
