Phrases, not advice. These cards only help you say what you need. They are not guidance on religion or customs; follow your host.

Review pending: native-speaker review of this card has not happened yet. Phrases marked "check" (all Gujarati and Tamil, and a few Hindi lines) are the ones we are least sure of. Use them as a starting point and let the person you speak to correct you.

Diwali 2026 dates

Dates vary by region and by calendar (panchang), and some communities, for example in Tamil Nadu, mark Deepavali a day earlier. Treat the dates as a guide and ask your colleague or neighbour which day they celebrate. Sources: Embassy of India in Paris, official 2026 holiday list (Diwali / Deepawali Sunday 8 November), awarenessdays.com (Diwali Sunday 8 November 2026, five-day celebration 6 to 10 November), smartpuja.com (Diwali Sunday 8 November 2026, Lakshmi Puja 17:32 to 19:28 in New Delhi) and azafashions.com (Dhanteras Friday 6 November). Sources disagree on Govardhan Puja and Bhai Dooj; the Gujarati new year date was not confirmed against a Gujarati panchang. Checked 2026-10-24.

How to read the sounds: aa = long "a" as in "father", ee = "ee" in "see", oo = "oo" in "moon", ay = "ay" in "say". The stressed syllable is in CAPITALS. Hindi "th", "dh" and "d" are softer than in English; a close try is understood.
